So I'm Going To Be Running The London Marathon Next Year
So excited / happy / amazed that I got my place! Opened the pack and now I’ve got a HUGE smile on my face. It’s going to be a weird running dream come true for me, onwards and upwards for me. April 22nd is the day and I’ll definitely be there!
I’m going to completely contradict the tittle by saying NO, it’s only the beginning to bigger and better stuff, being involved with Rundemcrew inspired me to become a crew leader, a mentor, a role model. If I can just inspire one person to run whilst having my own crew that’s absolutely fine with…
“I once read a quote about racing that I always take with me on raceday…
“I tell our runners to divide the race into thirds. Run the first part with your head, the middle part with your personality, and the last part with your heart.” Mike Fanelli
He could have meant many things, but I’ve taken it to mean this:
Run with your head. Keep calm, don’t get caught up in nervous flapping. Sensibly find your pace and keep focused on it. Be careful navigating around people and busy water stations etc.
Then run with your personality. This I think just means enjoy it, appreciate the day and give something of yourself to it. Check in with your wingman or team, look after them. Smile and cheer back at the supporters who have come out for you. Remember to look up and around where you are running and engage with your surroundings. Be part of it.
Finally run with your heart. It’s from here that you do your best for yourself, make someone proud, or even prove someone wrong. The bit of you that wants this, knows now hard you have worked and will be stronger when you cross the finish line.
So, youngers, with heads, personality and hearts, go race!”
I wonder how many missed opportunities there have been due to being scared? Fear shouldn't stop you from living. Go tell that guy he is hot stuff, run through the neighborhood and stop caring if people see your fat jiggle, talk to everyone you want to because fear of rejection doesn't control you, go take a road trip, go dance, sing a song, take risks, laugh.
It can take you places that you never dreamt of going. It will teach you a lot of things about yourself that you didn’t know. You learn about the type of person you really are, whether you’re a fighter or a quitter.
It will change your life. If you want it to anyway…
Achievement and running go hand in hand for me. Whenever I finish a run I’m happy, I may not look it on my face but deep down, I’m happy. Happy that I can continue to push myself and that I’ve been given a fantastic opportunity with the Run Dem Crew Younger’s project.
