Sunday’s 16 Miles
London, me and you have to talk! It was ridiculously hot this weekend and Sunday proved to nearly defeat me! I set out to do 20 miles but as the run went on I began to fade. I met up with Atticus and Nick and before I knew it the ice in my bottle of water had melted away. If there was ever a day to lose my t shirt tan, it was today!

We were out there for more than 2 hours in the heat with absolutely no clouds or breeze! I hit a nice groove but we had to stop again after that to catch our breath. The route started in Hackney Wick and then to Homerton, back to Hackney Wick via the canal and towards Limehouse. After we took in the nice sights on the dock we headed towards Victoria Park. It was the first time I had ran 10 miles before reaching my local park (which is 5 minutes from my house) but that’s what Sundays are for, right?! So we can have new experiences with good people.
Some tips for the rest of you runners out there:
- There is no bad weather, only wrong gear - if it’s hot, wear a vest and smaller shorts. If it’s cold, then get on those shights
- Eat well beforehand - I don’t mean on the day, I mean the night before, think energy
- Run strong - Hold your head up high, you’re a runner, be proud of yourself because you are strong.
Speak soon, keep on going.
