I finally finished my Berlin Marathon report!

It will be on the Run Dem Crew Youngers blog soon. In the meantime, check out my friends’ race reports on there!

6 Days To Go

FYI - I totally forgot to post this last week.

There’s no running away from it now. I will run a second marathon in 6 days time. 26.2 miles for the second time in my life! What have I become?! As I said yesterday, I think my decision to run 10 marathons in 10 years is an odd one but we will see where it takes me. I get to work with the best sportswear and running brand in the world next week and interact with over 40 people that not only run marathons, but have similar interests to myself. As I prepare for my five stone project and blog it will be a great experience for me.

Yes I won’t get a PB but there’s so much more on offer for me, there’s opportunities, connections to be made and once in a lifetime experiences to be had, who would turn all of that down?! I’m young and exploring the world through a lifestyle tht has changed my life, not many people my age can say that they’ve done that.

Yes I am blowing my own trumpet.

But before a Marathon you have to get in Marathon mode, and that means blowing your own trumpet. I thank the people that have got me here, Daniel Maskitt for his ongoing support to me since April, my beautiful girlfriend for staying by my side when I was a man ready to quit, my ever loving mother for showing me that I can continue to make people proud as long as I try my best and to Charlie Dark who reminded me that running is like life, it’s hard. He also reminded me that I have time on my side and that I can do it! My run dem crew family is strong and I thank everyone for their well wishes that I received on Tuesday, you are all in my heart whilst I pound the German Capitals streets with RDC plastered on my back, ready for war.

I will enjoy myself next week and take in the experience for all it’s worth, Nike is a great company, Berlin is an extraordinary City and the international groups need no compliments for we know what they can bring to ones life.

My friends,

Thank you.

Sunday’s 16 Miles

London, me and you have to talk! It was ridiculously hot this weekend and Sunday proved to nearly defeat me! I set out to do 20 miles but as the run went on I began to fade. I met up with Atticus and Nick and before I knew it the ice in my bottle of water had melted away. If there was ever a day to lose my t shirt tan, it was today!

We were out there for more than 2 hours in the heat with absolutely no clouds or breeze! I hit a nice groove but we had to stop again after that to catch our breath. The route started in Hackney Wick and then to Homerton, back to Hackney Wick via the canal and towards Limehouse. After we took in the nice sights on the dock we headed towards Victoria Park. It was the first time I had ran 10 miles before reaching my local park (which is 5 minutes from my house) but that’s what Sundays are for, right?! So we can have new experiences with good people.

Some tips for the rest of you runners out there:

  • There is no bad weather, only wrong gear - if it’s hot, wear a vest and smaller shorts. If it’s cold, then get on those shights
  • Eat well beforehand - I don’t mean on the day, I mean the night before, think energy
  • Run strong - Hold your head up high, you’re a runner, be proud of yourself because you are strong.

Speak soon, keep on going.

A quick 4

Yesterday I ran for the first time on a Thursday in what seemed like an eternity. I remember during VLM training that the midweek runs were the hardest but they made me most proud of myself. Those runs where were I was taking a stand against laziness and just getting on with things whilst gritting my teeth and working towards my goal. I got a glimpse of that strength again last night with the run and went home with a smile on my face. 4 miles in the bag and I’m ready for what the weekend has to offer me!

8 Min average pace for TEAMBLN

This is what starts today. I have to jump in at week 8 but lets do this. I think I’ve only been happy on a couple of runs lately, and those were long distance runs, that’s where I find my peace. If I can do this Marathon in September then there’s nothing I can’t do!

Race Schedule for 2012

  • Paris Half Marathon
  • Berlin Half Marathon
  • London Marathon
  • Berlin Marathon

So far my list has increased to 4 races! It’s going to be no biggy obviously, just 2 Half Marathons and 2 Marathons. Because that’s what I do regularly and all that, right?! The answer is no and 2012 will be devoted to training, training and more training. It’s going to be a ridiculous amount of hard work and I’ll admit it, I am scared. But there’s bigger things in this world than me and what I’m scared of so I’ve entered these races, sucked it up and I’m going to go out there to make people proud.

When I took those first steps in Victoria park all those years ago I never dreamed of going on my travels next year doing these races but it’s happening and this is where I am today - Three 10k’s and two Half Marathons deep. So, Paris, Berlin and LONDON! Are you ready?!
