Track Of The Day #13

Nadastrom vs Heartbreak - Church

Songs such as this one evoke a reaction in the muscles as soon as the brain processes the signals received from the years. You have to move when you hear it. It’s unavoidable. Nadastrom and Heartbreak create a new sound using tools provided by James Blake, Nina Simone and Kanye West to create 3 minutes and 11 seconds of pure  musical goodness. Enjoy.

Track Of The Day #12

I’m a huge Plan B fan, it’s been like that since I first heard ‘No Good’ the video for that was insane! His record ‘Who Needs Actions When You Got Words’ came out at a very important time in my life when I was 16, many changes were happening and the music he put out helped show me that the world was bigger then the corner I live on. He’s come a long way since then and I have appreciated most of his work since then.

His ‘Paint It Blacker’ mixtape was one that really did it for me, he seamlessly blended old and new and helped me expand my musical knowledge. The track below is one of his best ever songs for me, have a listen below.

Track Of the Day #11

This week has been about reclaiming myself. So to find inspiration for today’s track of the day post, I had a gander at my last.fm profile to see what music I actually identify myself with. I checked over the last 6 months and found a track that immediately brought a massive grin to my face.

Not only is Ghostpoet an incredibly talented artist, he’s also down with Run Dem Crew AND Egothieves. What’s not to love about him?!

I always remember playing this song in my car whilst on my way home from getting my first pair of spectacles earlier in the year and singing my heart out!. The song for me just reminds me to be myself and if I do that, I’ll be happy.

Track Of The Day #10

Emotionally, it’s been quite a draining week for me. I’ve tried hard to get through this week both mentally and physically. I always find that when I’m feeling down I browse my favourite songs and select a few which cheer me up. That trail of thought brings me to the fantastic Josey Rebelle’s interview where she said this when asked if she wastes ‘hours’ mixing running mixes:

How dare you imply that music could ever be a waste of time when music has done so much for you, Josh Jones? When you were down, who picked you up? Music, that’s who. When you needed an energy boost, who recharged the batteries of your soul? Yes, Music. When people pointed, when they stood in a big circle and called you names and tugged on your pubes, it was in Music’s sweet arms that you sought shelter, was it not?

Powerful words from her. Music helps us so much and we should all take some minutes out of our days to explore it. It will do you some good!

I believe we all share a connection with the songs we hear, albeit in different ways. So for this track of the day, I bring you a record that changed my life. Blu & Exile are my favourite Hip-Hop duo and this song constantly helps remind me just how important this life that I live is. The song below is one that sums up the journey that we’re all on called life. Remember, your life is what you make it. Enjoy!

Track Of The Day #9

Word on the street is that Rita Ora has used this somewhere. Don’t blame her, blame Chase & Status. It’s a double edged sword. They produced the remix to Heartbeat and then produced RIP and hey presto we have whatever that song is that she sings.

Chase and Status lace Nneka’s original track, Heartbeat with a tad more base and strip down some of the original instruments used but I like the remix. It’s all about making something nice and new of what’s presented already, right?

I first discovered this track on the Binary Bass mix by Jack Swift. It set the tone for one of the best mixes I have in my 15,000 strong library. I would always go back to that mix just for this song and it was at the start of it! Turn up your speakers and get ready for the little rave in your room!

Track Of The Day #8

For one of the few times I saw this songs video (albeit not official) before I heard it! I have no qualms about that though. va$htie put together this video to pay homage to this track and I think it’s wonderful. Sick back and enjoy, my favourite Lyric is from Kanye at 01:49 on the track, ‘How many people almost famous // you almost remember what they name is’

Artist: Lupe Fiasco feat. Kanye West & Pharrell | Track: Us Placers | Mixtape: Follow The Leader*

*This was the mixtape that I have it from.
